More than 100 young leaders from Murang’a and Kiambu counties gathered at Golden Palm Hotel over the weekend for a high-energy leadership summit that challenged the youth to rise above political divisions, embrace innovation and take charge of the country’s future.

The summit, organized by Murang’a One Youth Organization (MU1YO) under the theme “Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders,” brought together mentors, motivational speakers and professionals who inspired participants to pursue purposeful leadership and community transformation.

The event featured leadership training, youth empowerment sessions, networking opportunities and motivational talks centered on the role of young people in shaping a progressive and united society.

Human rights lawyer Mbiyu Kamau, who is also the patron of the organization, urged the youth to discover and maximize their talents, saying many young people fail to reach their full potential despite possessing the ability and energy needed to succeed.

“Once you realize your talent, make sure you actualize it to the fullest,” Kamau told the participants.

He emphasized the importance of self-awareness and personal growth, noting that the mind remains the most powerful tool for success and transformation.

Quoting French military leader Napoleon Bonaparte, he reminded the youth that “impossible is a word only found in a fool’s dictionary,” urging them to reject fear and limitations.

He challenged the young leaders to use their creativity, knowledge and determination to become agents of positive change in their communities and the nation at large.

The lawyer further stressed the need for mentorship, saying societies thrive when experienced leaders intentionally nurture younger generations.

Kamau, who is seeking to become the next Member of Parliament for Juja Constituency, said investing in youth leadership and empowerment is critical in building a stronger and more responsible society.

MU1YO chairperson Peter M Thiongo said the summit focused on addressing major challenges affecting young people, including unemployment, education, innovation and leadership opportunities.

Thiongo emphasized that the youth must now begin viewing themselves as active leaders rather than future leaders waiting for tomorrow.

“The youth are no longer the leaders of tomorrow but the leaders of today,” he said.

He called on young people to embrace integrity, service and visionary leadership while avoiding divisions fueled by politics.

According to Thiongo, unity among young people is essential in driving development and building stronger communities.

“Young people should not allow political differences to divide them. They must remain united for the common good of their generation and the progress of the nation,” he added.

The chairperson said the summit encouraged participants to work together beyond political affiliations and focus on cooperation, innovation and positive transformation.

Participants described the summit as timely and impactful, saying it provided a platform for mentorship, networking and inspiration at a time when many young people are searching for direction and opportunities.

The event ended with renewed calls for youth inclusion in leadership and decision-making processes, with organizers promising to continue creating platforms that empower and mentor the next generation of leaders.
