Kabete’s incoming 2027 parliamentary hopeful James Wanjohi has been praised for his compassion and hands-on leadership after he stepped in to support families affected by a fire tragedy in Gitaru.

Mr Wanjohi, a youthful and successful entrepreneur, spent Friday donating essential items to victims whose homes were destroyed following a fire ignited by a botched fireworks incident. The blaze left several families displaced, with residents counting losses of property and household goods.

Witnesses said Mr Wanjohi personally visited the affected area, interacted with victims and offered practical support, a move that many residents described as a reflection of his caring leadership style.

“He did not just send help; he came in person, listened to the victims and stood with them in their moment of need,” said a local community leader.

The donations included foodstuffs, bedding and other basic household necessities aimed at helping families begin the process of rebuilding their lives.

Residents said the gesture has further strengthened confidence in Mr Wanjohi’s leadership, noting that his actions go beyond politics and demonstrate genuine concern for the welfare of the community.

“Leadership is about showing up when people are hurting. This is why Kabete is eager to usher him in as MP in 2027,” said another resident.

Mr Wanjohi has in recent months increased his engagement with communities across Kabete, focusing on social support, youth empowerment and development-oriented initiatives.

As affected families continue to receive assistance and assess the damage, local leaders called for greater safety awareness during public celebrations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

For many in Kabete, Friday’s visit reinforced the view that Mr Wanjohi represents a new generation of leadership anchored on empathy, action and service.
