UDA aspirant in Bobasi constituency arrested for taking away election materials

A United Democratic Alliance aspirant for Bobasi Constituency seat Lucas Mogoa has been arrested over the allegations of interference with nomination exercise at Rigena polling centre.
Its alleged that Mr Mogoa mobilised his supporters who stormed the polling centre and took away all the election materials on allegations that there was some rigging going on.
Confirming the incident Nyamache OCPD Kipkemoi Kipkulei said that Mogoa was arrested and is being held at Nyangusu Police station with investigations going on.
“We are currently carrying out investigations and we are going to take the UDA aspirant Mogoa to court for interfering with the nomination exercise,” said Kipkulei.
He said that it was wrong for the aspirant to take the law into his hands and that he should have presented his grievances to the police and the party leadership.
Mr Mogoa who contested for the Bobasi Constituency seat in the 2017 general election using the Amani National Congress Party ticket emerging fourth candidate.
Bobasi is one of the two Constituencies in Kisii County where the nomination exercise is being conducted with Mogoa competing against Governance expert Gloria Orwoba.
The UDA Party Kisii County Deputy Returning Officer Henry Orangi said that due to fuel challenges they started the exercise late at around 10:00 AM.
He said that the party was finding out why Mogoa had been arrested before giving out a comprehensive statement.
“We have gotten information that one of our aspirants in Bobasi Constituency has been arrested, we are out to establish what happened,” said Orangi.
Mr Orangi lauded the security officers for ensuring that the exercise has been conducted peacefully.
UDA nominations for Mps are being carried out in Kitutu Chache North and Bobasi Constituency with only 15 wards participating the exercise.
