In Kenya before the introduction of the Curriculum-Based Competence (CBC), the 8-4-4 system was the system and bridging the second half and the last quarter it is what that made students to have rumbling stomachs, raising tides of tension and confusion in their life. The reality is that not everyone will join campus nor not everyone will miss the very chance. For those who misses the chance; the feminine gender prefer to be married or being employed as a nanny, some flews abroad to the Asian continents in pursuit of daily bread, the male gender takes different routes of either becoming a motorbike rider, drug trafficking or even becoming a terrorist in the name of looking for greener pastures, neither of the above shall offer solutions to their rhetoric problems.
How many death and torture cases have been aired by the Africans working in Arabic nations? How many accidents have been caused by reckless drivers? How many people have lost lives from terrorist attacks and explosions? How many people have died of cancers and other deadly diseases just because of drug and substance abuse?
Missing a chance to join a campus paves way for an individual to explore much in his/ her talent. How many musicians, footballers and athletes eat with big spoons just because of their talents? Similarly, government and NGOs have offered platforms for many talented people to see their potential, it is just a matter of accepting oneself, believing and keep on trying, even the former president of United States, Obama had a slogan of “yes i can” and he made it to be the first African president to be crowned to rule over the whites.
In addition, government have pumped a lot of resources in vocational, technical and colleges (TVET) . Having a skill in masonry, plumbing, electricity for instance. Have made people to scale the bars of their lives. There is still much needed in carpentry, food industry, hair dressing and even fashion and design and these are hot-cake short courses. If form four leaver enroll in the any of the above courses the very individual shall be bettering up his/her own life it is not just a matter of white collar jobs since the latter field is flooded too.
There are other sectors such as transport and military that offers wide chances for many. One can enroll in a driving school or try recruitment in any of the police service and military, in the police service and military for instance government through the ministry of interior security said that diploma and degree holders should not be recruited so that many of the Kenyans without “papers” can be absorbed.
Instead of attempting suicide, early marriages and engaging in retrogressive activities. There so many opportunities that needs to be ventured and explored. Life is neither a bed of roses nor a joy riding thing, it is a battlefield that the only who survive must be fit psychologically. The ball it’s on your side it is you to choose whether to score or not, but the fundamental thing is to accept yourself and solder on since the future is still luminous.
