The lender’s managing director is repositioning the bank as an enterprise development partner through a structured alliance with Kenya’s national business chamber

Kingdom Bank Managing Director Anthony Mburu is building a partnership with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry aimed at expanding access to finance, strengthening market linkages and creating practical opportunities for entrepreneurs across Kenya’s micro, small and medium enterprise sector.
The talks gained momentum when KNCCI National Director Ken Onditi led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Mburu, with both institutions examining how their networks and capabilities could be combined to tackle persistent challenges facing Kenyan MSMEs. At the centre of the proposed collaboration is a straightforward premise: sustainable business growth requires more than credit — entrepreneurs also need market intelligence, business connections and the capacity to compete.
Trade finance, credit guarantees and tailored financial products featured in the discussions, with both sides exploring how capital constraints could be eased for businesses involved in domestic and international trade. KNCCI brings considerable reach, with more than 60,000 member businesses across all 47 counties and international offices in China and Dubai — networks Kingdom Bank wants to use to connect its SME customers with new markets and potential partners.
The two institutions moved beyond broad commitments during the visit. They agreed to establish a joint committee drawing together their marketing and trade teams to coordinate activities and guide implementation. Kingdom Bank’s presence among the business community will also be strengthened through KNCCI’s digital platforms and member engagement programmes, while the collaboration will facilitate referrals for certificates of origin supporting businesses in international trade.
KNCCI presented Kingdom Bank with a Platinum Membership Certificate recognising its engagement with the chamber. Members of the delegation also held separate discussions with Kingdom Bank Branch Manager Joel Gitau on practical implementation at branch level, ensuring the partnership’s benefits reach businesses where they actually operate.
Both institutions are looking ahead to the Africa Commerce and Industry Summit, scheduled for 14 to 16 October at Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum in Nairobi. The summit is expected to draw more than 5,000 delegates from over 50 countries, creating further opportunities to engage entrepreneurs and investors in a single setting.
