Thousands of farmers from various sectors in Nyeri County have benefited from machinery and equipment donations which are aimed at increasing their productivity.

The farmers drawn from Kieni constituency were handed over the donations by the area Governor Mutahi Kahiga.

The farm machinery for each group included a walking tractor 18.5 Hp, with rotavator, double disc plough, ridger, planter, potato harvester and ditcher.

The walking tractors will promote potato production mechanization, lower labour cost, thus increase the value chain’s productivity.

The groups include Kianjogu Kiambogo Commercial Village (Mugunda ward), Mwitirithia Women Group (Mweiga ward), Gikamba Commercial Village (Narumoru/Kiamathaga ward) and  Kairi Youth Group (Kabaru ward).

The equipment has been purchased by the County Government of Nyeri, National Government and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) through the Agriculture Sector Development Support Programme, Phase Two (ASDSP II).

The programme has developed the Strategic Integrated Value Chain Action plan (SIVCAP) in which the gaps and intervention for the three value chains and the various nodes were identified.

Working together with partners such as the National Government, the Swedish Government and the European Union, Nyeri County will realize its potential to alleviate poverty for thousands of families and achieve shared prosperity.

During the handing over ceremony, the governor was accompanied by among others,  Naromoru/Kiamathaga ward MCA Martin Matu.
