Kisii County Governor Launch Digital System of Dispensing Drugs to Curb Theft

Kisii County governor, Simba Arati has launched a digital system of dispensing drugs to Health Facilities across the area to curb theft of the medicines and foster health care system.
The governor said the system by Technology Associates tracks movement of drugs from the time they are delivered at the county’s headquarters, health facilities up to patients, stressing drugs will no longer be stolen.
Arati, who flagged off a consignment of drugs worth Ksh. 27 million noted the health facilities have been mounted with closed circuit television (CCTV) to record those who steal drugs from the facilities.
“The system is strong and it can detect if a person has stolen drugs in his vehicle. The theft of drugs is now long gone” Arati said at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, adding the staff will be trained to handle the system.
The governor said that there have been laxity in the health facilities but medical personnel needs to pull up their socks.

Mr Monda said the county has liaised with Kenya Power and Lighting Company to connect all health facilities with electricity to enhance the digital dispensation of drugs to patients at the facilities.
He said that they want to endure blackout of the power which are the main challenge in the county.
Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital chief pharmaceutical officer Cheriot Kemutai said that the consignment include pharmaceutical and non pharmaceutical components they will verify what they have received from KEMSA before they are recorded.
Mr Onyonka said the system used to be at the facilities ten years ago but was destroyed, adding the new system will track the drugs from the time the health workers prescribes drugs up to the time the patients receive them.
He also said that they will set up the ICT system where all the medicine will be barcoded.
“We want the pharmacist to know which medicine has expired, procured or needs to be procured,” he said.
However, governor assured the staff they will be paid their salaries on fifth of every month and implored Doctors to be available at the health facilities when required to enhance health care services.
