Nyeri County Government celebrates Community Health & SUPPORT OF Volunteers (CHVs)

Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), are our real heroes, having been an epitome of commitment and resilience in providing health services to our residents at the household level.
For this reason, the County Government of Nyeri led by Governor Mutahi Kahiga celebrated the 2,510 CHVs for the noble role they play providing community education to Nyeri residents through screening, early detection and management of lifestyle diseases which is a huge burden especially in Nyeri where the prevalence is higher.
Governor Kahiga applauded their efforts particularly during this Covid-19 pandemic era whereby the CHVs notably stepped up to provide the much needed prevention, promotion, rehabilitative and curative services more so to those advanced in age.
Courtesy of the County Government through the Department of Health Services, each CHV received medical kits and merch to enable them serve our community better. Further, the County Government is in the process of enacting the Nyeri Community Health Services Bill into the law; a bill that will ensure the CHVs have access to their rights and are protected by the law. We endeavor to improve their working conditions as we continuously realize community health goal that states ’Afya Yetu, Jukumu Letu’ through capacity building forums that the County Government has enrolled them in.
The County Government aspires to progressively shift its main focus from ill-health and hospitals, to communities and empowering families to take charge of their own health. This will be achieved through transformative solutions and increased investments particularly in NCDs prevention and treatment.
The governor also appreciated partners and stakeholders in the Health Sector for their support including Amref Health Africa who have been very instrumental especially in the curbing of Covid-19 pandemic.

Health), James Wachihi (Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries), Esther Ndung’u (Gender, Youth & Social Services), Agriculture Chief Officer Ruth Mwangi, Directors Dr. Nelson Muriu (Health), Theuri Warugongo (Agriculture), Joram Onditi (Amref Health) among others.
