The headquarters of a water and sanitation providing company that serves three counties were vandalised and property stolen.
The goons, suspected to have been under the support of a rival group opposed to the current management raided the offices of Mutitu Water and Sanitation Company offices at Nairutia township, Kieni West Sub-County early yesterday and marched all the workers out and closed the offices.
The company Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Muturi said that they suspected that those who invaded their offices were ferried from other areas.
“It’s criminality and the matter is with the authorities and stiff action will be taken against them” Muturi told journalists.
The company has been rocked with management rows with a section of membership calling for replacement of the current leadership for among other things, changing the ownership of the company from a public to a private entity.
Following the raid, stakeholders and area security officials held a crisis meeting where it was resolved that the current management be left to continue providing services to the public as an adhoc committee established last month work on modalities of addressing various concerns raised by warrying groups.
Police were also directed to speedily investigate and take action against the perpetrators or those who attempts to interfere with the running of the company.
“There are people who don’t want to follow the law as the matter was addressed but some people are looking for the downfall of the company for their own benefits. Those involved and the facilitators of the chaos are well known” Muturi added.
Sources said police were looking for some people who were part of the gang that raided the premises and recorded themselves before posting images and videos on their social media platforms.
They are said to have been boosting of how they managed to close the offices and haul out the workers, injuring some of them.
Thousands of family members served by the company may now go without the basic commodity as apart from injuring some workers, the goons also destroyed crucial documents and stole others.
They are said to have destroyed or stolen power and data backups and unspecified amount of money. They also destroyed CCTV cameras and stole mobile generator.
The company serves residents of various wards in Nyeri, Laikipia and Nyandarua counties.
