LEATHER SHOE PRODUCTION TRAINING FOR NYERI TRAINEES

The County Government of Nyeri through the Department of Education in collaboration with Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI) is offering training to 10 Trainers of Trainers at Rukira VTC, Mahiga in Othaya on leather shoe production .

The Institution had earlier this year received production machines and started the production of leather shoes.

The first half of the training, the trainees will be equipped with knowledge including theory, pattern making and desiging of the shoes.

During the second half, to kickstart on 9th January, learners will be equipped with skills ranging from shoe production and how to operate the leather making machines.

The Deputy Director Administration and Finance KITI, John Kisyula thanked the County Government for giving them a chance to show case and impact other trainers with the leather shoe making skills. He is also hopeful that Governor Mutahi Kahiga dream of the ‘mwalimu shoe’ will be achieved and  in turn create employment and improve the social economy of the county.

The registrar KITI, Brendah Ndiema is hopeful that at the end of the training, the trainees will produce a complete back to school leather shoes.

CECM Education, Margret Macharia, urged them to continue making progress and besides shoe production, proceed to produce other leather commodities such as wallets and leather belts. She is also hopeful that at the end of the training, they will produce close to 100 back to school shoes and sell them in order to create social capital for both the VTC and the County as a whole.

The training is being carried out for ten days where it kicked off on Monday 19th December. At the end of the training the trainees will be awarded with certificates and a follow up will be done after completion.
