Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene has challenged residents in areas with hardship perks to demand to know how their equalisation fund is spent by the county government of Tharaka Nithi.
According to Parto, the kitty comes per sub location with the aim of developing localities in terms of roads, water and health, which respective residents must sit and agree on in public participation forums.
He revealed that the whole of Tharaka constituency receives the funding and asked residents even in other areas to endeavor to know how the money is spent.
“The only way to implement equalisation fund is by having residents from the respective sub locations identify projects which revolve around roads, health and water.Ask yourselves where lastly did such a meeting happen in the benefiting areas like Tharaka Constituency,” MP Parto said.
In Igambang’ombe, the legislator said they have been considered and 7 sub locations have been listed in the program and will now be receiving equalisation funds for the first time.
He further argued that the funding helps in raising County’s allocation and when the money is received,it should be taken to the respective marginalized areas for development and not elsewhere.
Currently the better part of Tharaka constituency and Igambang’ombe Sub County in Chuka Igambang’ombe Constituency are less developed compared to the other parts of the County which are favoured by climatic conditions.
For instance, the affected areas suffers poor roads, lacks both irrigation and domestic water and other vital facilities enjoyed by residents from developed parts of the County.
In relation to the hardship allowances that teachers and leaders from the marginalized Igambang’ombe have been advocating for,the Chuka Igambang’ombe MP said the best way to deal with the issues is developing the affected regions to alleviate challenges making them hardy.
He stated that Kathwana municipality which is part of the marginalized Igambang’ombe has so far received over Sh 2 billion from World Bank alone which should be developing the place to make it better but unfortunately it hasn’t happened.
Therefore the MP said that even as debate on hardship allowances rage, the discussion should be the whereabouts of such money that should be transforming Igambang’ombe to a better place.
