Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has urged primary school heads to allow parents to buy the new Junior Secondary School (JSS) uniform progressively, allowing students to use the grade 6 uniform if they cannot afford it. Machogu acknowledged that the lack of a new uniform should not deny access to education for some parents, as the cost of living has gone up. He also cautioned school administrators against asking for money for the construction of JSS classrooms, as the government allocated over Sh630 billion towards education in the last budget. He also urged parents to enroll students who did not attain university entry grades in TVETs and polytechnics to acquire professional skills.

Bandari Youth and Changamwe Ladies from Mombasa County have won the Coast region’s fourth edition of Safaricom Chapa Dimba, earning Sh250, 000 in cash prizes. The winners, along with runners-up The Young Gunners and Bulls Starlets, each received Sh150, 000. The Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper, and Top Scorer each received Sh30,000 cash awards. The winning team also received a Neon Ultra smartphone, while the runners-up received a Neon Smarter phone. Bandari Youth won the finals against the Young Gunners 3-0, earning the Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer awards. Changamwe Ladies secured their second regional title by defeating Kilifi’s Bulls Starlets 3-0. The tournament aims to provide a structured platform for scouts and coaches to tap into new talent and build feeder systems for Kenyan football leagues.
Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) students from Abothuguchi ward in Meru County have received leather shoes as they prepare for secondary school. The Patrick Muthuri Foundation, run by Mr. Patrick Muthuri, has distributed locally-made leather shoes and other school items to beneficiaries, addressing discomfort experienced by learners using plastic-based shoes during hot seasons. The initiative aims to ensure a 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary school education and enhance literacy levels in the area. The foundation will also award scholarships to every student who passes the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams, aiming to boost cooperation and improve academic performance. Mr. Muthuri called on parents to support their children by following up on their performances and conduct in their schools and instilling discipline in them while in and out of school. The initiative supports the local economy and promotes a more sustainable education system.

The Director in charge of Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) John Onyango yesterday presided over the opening ceremony of the Sub-County Criminal Investigation officers (SCCIO) development course at the National Criminal Investigations Academy in South C.
The course is designed to inject a fresh impetus, vibrancy and enhance the officers’ professionalism and competency, in order to aid them attain the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes commensurate to their responsibilities as SCCIOs.
Onyango who was representing the Director DCI, urged the participants to utilize the opportunity to gain skills and proper insights into the process of developing effective policies and framework that will enhance service delivery and aid in dismantling existing criminal networks.
Further, Onyango noted that the program will emphasize on sensitization on new laws, serious investigations and crime scene management, adding that criminal investigation officers need to go back to the basics in order to ensure the investigation process of a case is thorough and can withstand scrutiny.
The Director Training Edwin Kamau, who was also in attendance, urged the participants to partake the course with utmost seriousness, observing that the emergence of new crimes and evolution of traditional crimes give rise to the need for law enforcement response to adapt its efforts and capacities accordingly.
On her part, the commandant DCI Academy Ms. Gatiria Mboroki, encouraged the participants to treat the course with utmost solemnity as the expertise they will acquire will come in handy in carrying out and supervising investigations.
