Worth Noting:
- The stakeholders restoring the forest cover across the country needs to these spices of the natural trees Maesoposis Eminii(Musizzi),Eliipticum(Musasa),Milicia excels, Jack fruits and mango trees and others.
- They shouldn’t prefer the planting some of the artificial trees like eucalyptus trees, pine and other because they are harmful to people’s slivelihoods and environment. They are not recyclable or biodegradable and their production adds to carbon footprint, are allelopathy on ground vegetation, has a negative impact on biodiversity, exhausts soil from nutrient, has oil in its leaves, some plants canopy is unfriendly to a vain fauna and other.
Recently, the media reported about the Church of Uganda, National Forestry Authority (NFA) and environmental organizations launching the campaign to boost effort to restore the shrinking forest cover in the country especially in Luwero district and Kagadi district and other districts.
The idea by the environmental organizations, National Forestry Authority (NFA) and the Church of Uganda is very good because it is aiming at mitigating the impact of climate change the country is grappling with today across the country. The stakeholders needs consider the indigenous tree planting while restoring the depleted forests across the country because they are environmentally friendly and provide a lot of socio-economic services to people’s livelihoods. .
The natural trees should be considered first while restoring the depleted forest because the improve soil and water conservation, store carbon, moderate local climate by providing shade, regulate temperature extreme, increase wildlife habitat and improve the land’s capacity to adapt to climate change and provide food and oxygen as well.
They are also used as the personal and spiritual values because most people plant trees as a living memorials of life changing events, for the record of history, practical and commercial values.

Therefore, I call on the environmental organizations, Church of Uganda, National Forestry Authority (NFA) and other relevant stakeholders to prefer the planting of the natural tree while restoring the depleted forest cover across the country because they are environmentally friendly and they provide a lot of services to the people’s livelihoods and the country’s economy.
