Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) Group Chief Executive Officer Wilson Muthaura yesterday hosted Ambassador Ekitela Moru the Kenya’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, at KTDA Headquarters where they discussed expanding KTDA’s presence in Malaysia, capitalizing on the growing demand for specialty teas, and harnessing bilateral efforts from both governments to unlock the market’s full potential.
Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) ICT team members led by General Manager Martin Mwarangu last Friday received two Gold Mark of Recognition and One Silver at the CIO100 Awards held in Naivasha. The team presented integration of three technology solutions that are geared to improve efficiency in tea industry ; Implantation of SAP ERP solution , business processes integration across tea value chain and ICT Infrastructure . ICT G.M Martin Mwarangu was recognized as one of the top CIO of the year ,2024 and KTDA was among the top three in ICT Infrastructure category.
The Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation held a fruitful engagement with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) to discuss enhancing engineering education, training, and professional practice. These efforts are aimed at ensuring the delivery of high-quality infrastructure in water, irrigation, and sanitation, key drivers of Kenya’s socio-economic development. The Ministry appreciates EBK’s commitment to recognizing engineering programs and facilitating the professional registration of engineers, critical for advancing the sector. The Engineers Board of Kenya was represented by the Chair Eng. Erastus Kabutu Mwongera and the CEO/Registrar Eng. Margaret Ogai.
Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Mugaa yesterday conducted an inspection tour of the Mwea Irrigation Development Programme (Thiba Dam and irrigation area) and the Mwea Irrigation Scheme in Kirinyaga County. The CS, accompanied by National Irrigation Authority Chairman Eng. Gilbert Maluki, CEO Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS, and senior officials, inspected the progress of the Mwea Irrigation Development Programme (Package II). Earlier, the team made courtesy calls to Governor Anne Waiguru and County Commissioner Mr. Hussein Alasow. Thiba Dam is pivotal in unlocking the irrigation potential of up to 35,000 acres. Package II (civil and drainage works) is currently at 77% completion. The scheme supports over 14,850 households and produces 150,000 MT of rice annually, strengthening food security and trade. The CS urged contractors to fast-track the remaining works to ensure timely completion. He reiterated that his ministry remains committed to advancing sustainable irrigation projects to bridge the food security gap, improve livelihoods, and drive economic growth.

Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia has called on boda boda operators to work closely with security agencies to enhance security. Speaking during a sensitisation forum in Busia, Macharia recognised the crucial role that boda boda riders play, operating in areas where security officers often cannot access. He urged the operators to continue ensuring peace and safety in their areas of operation.
“’We want to thank you for ensuring that there is peace and security in your areas of operations,” he said, adding that they reach areas where security officers cannot access.
Macharia assured the boda boda leadership that the government is committed to working with them at all levels.
