The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Secretary of Administration Mr. Harun Khator on Friday presided over the flag-off ceremony for 162 Kenyan youth from Kenya School of Agriculture (KSA) departing for the United Kingdom under the Government of Kenya-United Kingdom Seasonal Workers Scheme (SWS). The six-month industrial attachment in UK farms combines: hands-on training in modern agricultural techniques, competitive remuneration in sterling pounds, cultural exchange and professional development. As a key pillar of the government’s agenda, this initiative has successfully deployed 392 skilled agricultural workers since 2023, creating pathways for: Youth employment; Technology transfer; Sustainable agribusiness development .

In a well-coordinated operation, National Police Service officers on Friday apprehended two notorious criminals one Kelvin Kasyoki Kyalo and Wilson Ngethe Waweru, who are suspected of orchestrating a series of crimes in Embakasi and Kikuyu. The officers ambushed the criminals at their hideout in Thogoto and arrested the duo, who were inside a Mazda CX-5. The vehicle’s original registration number, KDC 077P, had been altered to read KDD 677P for concealment. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered master keys for car locks, crude weapons for housebreaking, number plate stickers used for concealment, and other related items. The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting police with investigations.

Ahead of World No Tobacco Day, the Ministry of Health is leading a youth training workshop in Eldoret, equipping tertiary students with knowledge on tobacco’s health, environmental, and economic harms. The session also builds their skills in advocacy, strategic communication, and resisting tobacco industry interference.

Chief of Staff and the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on Friday delivered the keynote address at the closing ceremony of the 11th Annual National HR Congress in Mombasa, a convening of stakeholders from across the human resource ecosystem in both the public and private sector. He emphasised the imperative to embed human resource management as a strategic pillar within public sector governance and institutional reform frameworks. This includes leveraging digital transformation, strengthening ethical leadership and stewardship, advancing performance management systems grounded in meritocracy, and fostering a people-centred organisational culture.
Effective human capital governance is fundamental to enhancing accountability, transparency, and service delivery in the public service, thereby driving sustainable national development. I commended the organisers for facilitating this critical platform for dialogue and capacity building. In attendance were Deputy Head of Public Service Amos Gathecha; Dr Jane Imbunya, Principal Secretary, Public Service and Human Capital Development; CHRP Quresha Abdullahi, Executive Director of the Institute of Human Resource Management; CHRP Odero Philip Dalmas, IHRM National Chairman; IHRM Council Members; County Secretaries; Commissioners; CEOs; Captains of Industry; and over 140 HR Directors and Deputy Directors from across the country.

Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika has commissioned 498 ECDE teachers who officially joined the Nakuru County Public Service on Permanent and Pensionable terms. These teachers will now serve in public ECDE centres across all 55 wards, bringing closer the county’s goal of ensuring that every child in the county has access to quality foundation-level education. During the ceremony, the governor listened to heartfelt testimonies from teachers who have served diligently for years on contract or under the Board of Management’s payroll who she assured that, as promised during the campaign, she will continue onboarding more ECDE teachers progressively, funds permitting. The governor urged the new teachers to serve with passion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to nurturing the next generation.
