Raila Odinga was buried yesterday in a ceremony that led the country to stand still.
The political doyen was interred in a family graveyard at Opodo Farm in Bondo, Siaya County.
Scores of mourners, led by President William Ruto who had the opportunity to address the final sendoff gathering at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology grounds described Raila’s demise as not only their personal loss but a nation’s shared grief.
They differently observed that Raila was not just their comrade in the struggle for democracy, justice and a better Kenya but was a brother, a friend, and an ally in some of the most defining moments of the country’s history.
They noted how for decades or years, they had walked side by side through seasons of hope, hardship, triumph and transformation.
Further, they disclosed how his courage, conviction and unwavering love for his motherland has over the years inspired generations and shaped the course of the nation’s democracy.
His voice, some noted, carried the heartbeat of the country and his actions spoke louder than any words could ever disclose.
The speakers who also included members of his immediate and extended family lamented how they will miss his wit, his wisdom, his strength, and his unmatched spirit, noting that though his voice has fallen silent, his legacy will echo through his family, his supporters, and the millions whose lives he touched with his ideals, sacrifices and vision remaining woven into the fabric of the Kenya’s story.
