Atletico Madrid drove the final nail in the coffin of a miserable season for Manchester united as Athletico’s Rena Ladies header sent the Spanish champions into the champions League quarter finals with a 1-0 win at Old Tranford to progress 2-1 aggregate yesterday.
Over the game, Manchester united seemed so off as most of the game Athletico seemed to have possession of the ball. They all had a lot of fouls initiating that the game played by Manchester squad was a bit lower than expected.
With famous and top scorers among the best players known globally and the dependent players in the field, Man U squad could not pull through to push their way to the quarter finals. United now face an uphill task just to get back into the champions league next season as an underperforming squad filled with star names sitting fifth in the premier league.
Athletico’s struggles finally bore fruits seeing them in the quarter finals after defeating the red devils despite their struggles to break into La liga’s top four this season. United interims boss Rolf Rognick says that,” as a team,they were fully aware that they needed to score the first goal themselves to secure them a chance to the quarter finals in the champions league.
