CS Matiangi cautions politicians to stop dividing Kenyans Instead Embracing peaceful campaigns

Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary (CS), Dr Fred Matiang’i has asked politicians to stop dividing Kenyans to cause violence but instead embrace peaceful campaigns ahead of the August 9 General Election.
Speaking at Kisii Sports Club Golf Course during Kisii diocese Catholic bishop, Joseph Mairura’s Episcopal silver jubilee, the CS has appealed to political leaders aspiring for elective seats to shun dragging public servants into their politics, saying they are non-partisan and will work with whoever is elected.
“Candidates are related to us. We cannot take sides. I have not told any leader anything. We want peace” Mataing’i said
The Cs said that the government will do whatever it takes to ensure the country have a peaceful election and transition and no violence will be experienced.
Dr Matiangi’i said the government has put measures in place to ensure the campaigns, elections and the transition is peaceful as he lauded the Catholic Church for its partnership with the government in promoting health and education.
He said that the relationship between the church and the government is strong and solid and the church has played a crucial role preaching peace.
The CS lauded the bishop for his sacrifice for the welfare of people of the Gusii community, recalling that during the infamous 2007/8 post-election chaos he supported the victims with food.
Terming the bishop a symbol of Gusii unity, the CS challenged politicians to respect church leaders, and be humble, stressing clerics are God’s servants who give guidance in various aspects.

He said bishop Mairura has united the Gusii community and the county government has worked with the catholic sponsored schools and hospitals to enhance education standards and health services in the area.
“He has been a moral fibre in Kisii and Nyamira counties. Catholic schools have produced the best leaders and the county government has seconded medical Doctors to work in catholic sponsored hospitals” Ongwae explained.
Gesami, who represented Nyamira county governor Amos Nyaribo lauded the bishop for steering the diocese with dignity and integrity, adding the county would continue partnering with the church to foster development.
