With 1,326,336 people currently living with HIV, the nation requires Kshs. 30 billion to secure essential commodities for prevention, treatment, and long-term care. These numbers are more than statistics, they are a call to action, reminding us that protecting the health of our people is both a moral responsibility and a national duty.
As Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi represented President William Ruto at the 2025 World AIDS Day Commemoration at Nyayo Stadium, he reflected on how HIV and AIDS have shaped the country’s history for over four decades. It is a journey that has tested Kenya’s resilience, but also strengthened its resolve to save lives and secure the wellbeing of future generations.
Despite ongoing challenges, Kenya continues to make significant progress. By last year, 87 percent of people living with HIV were receiving life-prolonging Anti-Retroviral Treatment. At the same time, Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) coverage rose to 90.1 percent, ensuring thousands of babies are born HIV-free and offering families renewed hope.
In his address, Mudavadi reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Kenyan can access comprehensive prevention, care, and treatment services. Through strong partnerships and sustained investment, the nation will continue delivering life-saving medication to all who need it.
