Stanley Livondo
Worth Noting:
- I hope no one would misconstrue my position. I am not saying that Livondo’s claims were true. It is too early to make this conclusion because the matter is still under investigation. However, this is a serious matter and cannot be taken lightly. Kenyans have no spare country. If peace and unity is disrupted, they have to bear all the pain and suffering.
- I have heard people questioning the timing of Livondo’s claims because we are in an election year. Would this suggest they knew the senior government official he was referring to? The politician did not mention the name. Sometimes the investigations take long before being concluded. So, you never know.
Flamboyant politician Stanley Livondo was among the leaders present at Thika Stadium during the home coming and thanksgiving ceremony for Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria. In his speech, the politician sensationally claimed that a senior government official had been involved in a plot to assassinate the President of the Republic of Kenya, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
The plot had been hatched twice and he spilled more beans when he was summoned to record with Directorate of Criminal Investigations [DCI]. Besides the official, some politicians, businessmen and a clergy participated in planning meetings held locally and abroad.
Before the dust settled, MP Kuria came out to distance himself from his remarks. He asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations [DCI] to arrest him for questioning and statement recording.
I would not have expected him to do this. First, the DCI knew their job. Secondly, it was wrong to cast Livondo as a person who was lying. Why call on DCI to arrest him? He had not committed any crime. When he was invited by sleuths to shed more light, he obliged.
For Kuria, it seemed he was more concerned about what about his political career. He did not want his friends in United Democratic Alliance [UDA] to blacklist him as a person who was working at the behest of the political rivals opposed to the ascendency of their master to presidency.
The alleged plot to assassinate the President did not matter. He was ready to join his colleagues in politicizing the politician’s claims so that even if he had evidence, it won’t see the light of the day.
In Thika Stadium, I heard Kuria saying that he was looking forward to reconciling and uniting the leaders and people of Mount Kenyatta region. I highly doubt this was coming from the bottom of his heart. Reason? Constitutionally, the President is a symbol of peace and unity in Kenya. And for the people of Mount of Kenya, he is their kingpin. So, if [God forbid] a plot to harm him, leave alone being assassinated, succeeds, this would pose a real danger to national security.
Kuria may think that he will be on a safer side. This is because he has the money to leave the country, go and live in comfort zone abroad. He would watch poor Kenyans butchering each other from there. Remember God do things in miraculous way. So, Kuria can also fall a victim.
I hope no one would misconstrue my position. I am not saying that Livondo’s claims were true. It is too early to make this conclusion because the matter is still under investigation. However, this is a serious matter and cannot be taken lightly. Kenyans have no spare country. If peace and unity is disrupted, they have to bear all the pain and suffering.
I have heard people questioning the timing of Livondo’s claims because we are in an election year. Would this suggest they knew the senior government official he was referring to? The politician did not mention the name. Sometimes the investigations take long before being concluded. So, you never know. Livondo may have reported this matter some years back.
In a classic case of double-speak, the same people would aver: This is not the first time we have heard these speculations. So, why talk about timing?
Sometimes back, Deputy President William Ruto had claimed that his life was in danger. When challenged to prove the claims, he cited a letter that bore no signature and the name of the author which was circulating in social media.
After the investigations, one of his top aides [Digital Communication director] was arraigned in court and faced charges of posting this letter. The allegations cited were false. It was part of smear campaign against the President.
At the time, DP’s allies and supporters were breathing fire demanding the investigations to be conducted and his security to be enhanced. These are the same people downplaying the alleged on Uhuru’s life.
As a student of history, I want to list four sitting presidents who had been assassinated; Juvenile Hybiarimana of Rwanda and his Burundian counterpart. The two were travelling in plane that crashed after being hit by a rocket-propelled missile. The others were Joseph Kabila Snr of DRC Congo and John F. Kennedy President of US.
