The country is at the height of election with most of the leaders searching for their running mate. Most of the women in the country worldwide have shown great interest for leadership power. In the recent decades over the past years, women have been left out in vying for leadership post. They have been seen as people who cannot take this country anywhere in being leaders. Therefore men have ruled this country right away when Kenya got its Independence in 1963 from the British Government.
The ranking of Kenyan President right from Jomo Kenyatta who was the first President of the republic to Uhuru Kenyatta who is the serving his last term as the country is awaiting the General Election. Whenever Women could show interest in being great leaders in top official government seat, a few have made it to the top. The likes of Martha Karua who wanted to become the President of Kenya showed much interest and vied for presidential seat, although she did not make it. This meant that even women can become leaders no matter what the general public will view them.
We are living in a patriarchal society where men have dominated the entire leadership post. This has made many women to give up in being given the chance to be leaders. The general public has even criticized the power of women saying that women cannot rule us as they are supposed to be submissive to men.
With the incoming general election in August, the Hon Raila Odinga who is a presidential candidate has chosen his running mate to be Martha Karua among other leaders. When Hon Raila declared Karua as his running mate, a lot of people jeered up especially from Murang’a County.
Many leaders have applauded Raila for choosing Karua as his running mate. Raila has shown good role model to other leaders to embrace the challenge. Leaders have come up to choose women as their running mate in order to make them equal to the task.
Among other leaders include the Senate speaker who was initially the governor for Bungoma Hon Kenneth Lusaka that is vying for gubernatorial seat has chosen Jennifer Mbatiany as the running mate among other leaders from Mt. Kenya.
Women mostly have been given chance in Cabinet secretaries in government. Amina Mohammed was Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and later on for sports.
