Nyeri Town constituency parliamentary aspirant on UDA ticket Wanyaga Gathaka has urged Bodaboda operators to exercise discipline and avoid issues that may land them in trouble.
Addressing operators drawn from Ruring’u Ward at Senior Chief Wambugu Palace, Gathaka said the sector should not be seen as a menace but an important subsector of the economy.
He said the government should assist the operators by among other things in capacity building adding that no one should dare ignore the sector that has about 1.4 operators with an annual turnover of Sh360 billion annually.
The operators feed an equal number of families and indirectly help other sectors in transportation since they are found everywhere.
Thus, Gathaka noted, the operators should not be condemned wholesale as it doesn’t happen other sectors.
“Make sure you at all times follow the rule of law. Don’t engage in acts that can force the government to issue blanket orders affecting all of you,”he told them.
He added, “We don’t criss schools because a rogue teacher has committed a certain crime or disband the police service because a few officers are corrupt or one of them is involved in extrajudicial killing “.
The operators promised to support Gathaka in his bid to be the next area MP.
