Pomp and colour marked the Tetu Constituency Empowerment Programme day held at Wamagana stadium.
Thousands of farmers attended the special event organised by dairy expert firm, Tanolope Consultancy.
They were taken through various initiatives that are aimed at enhancing dairy farming in their respective farms.
The farmers, drawn from all the three wards that form the constituency as well as others from the neighbouring constituencies were trained by among other firms, Spenza Feeds who alongside Tanolope Consultancy were the official sponsors of the event. Spenza Feeds also sold the feeds and maize flour on discounted prices.
The farmers were also treated to a spectacular football match between Tanolope Football club and Kona Mbaya Football club. The Kona Mbaya club is comprises players who work for Royal Media Services.
The Chief Guest during event was The New Democrats (TND) national chairman Dr Thuo Mathenge who is also an gubernatorial aspirant for Nyeri County.
Dr Thuo, urged the farmers to invest in their farms, saying unlike in the past, farming was now commercialized promising that once he takes the Governor’s office he will ensure Agricultural Extension Workers were found in all areas so that they could assist the farmers in increasing productivity and their income.
On his part, Tanolope Consultancy boss Alex Gathii Gitonga who is seeking the Tetu parliamentary seat on TND ticket promised to facilitate such events, covering all sectors practiced in the constituency so as to benefit all.
Gitonga noted that lack of proper dairy practices was the major impediment to gainful income by farmers.
Local farmers promised to support Dr Thuo and Gitonga’s bid saying they were clear on how they wanted to assist residents involved in various sectors.
During the event which was attended by Othaya constituency parliamentary aspirant on TND party Lawrence Kagwi, Dr Thuo gifted scores of farmers present mostly the elderly with maize flour from his firm.
