Surprisingly, the disease that was thought to be for the aged, nowadays affects even the young because of stress.
Mental health has been an issue of concern in the society, since it has been on high increase. Anybody can have mental health challenge regardless of age, gender, career or even ethical background. Mental health is ‘a pandemic’, which a greater number of the population is not aware of, yet it is consuming lots of people. In 2018, World Health Organization Director General Doctor Adhanom Ghebreyesus identified mental health as an area in which action is to be accelerated.
Depression is the leading cause of mental health. Many people normally find themselves depressed for reasons like being heartbroken by the so called ‘boyfriend or girlfriend ‘. This mostly happens among the youths. This leads to stress, and they end up losing hope in life. Many a time they even loose appetite and fail to eat not knowing that they are wasting off. Depression causes mental disturbance such that one cannot be in peace. It also makes one unable to carry his/her own daily activities, since it affects physically, mentally and even emotionally. Therefore, if it is not properly examined, it can lead to death, where one can commit suicide. The increased death cases among young people of the age 15-29 years are because of depression.

Financial stress has led to mental health disorders among the parents as well as children. Because of this, some students may drop out of school and engage in criminal activities as well as drugs and substance abuse that can cause premature deaths.
Mental health can be managed and treated. The government should create guidance and counselling centres where people can be educated on how to handle different life matters. Teachers can also play a significant role to help reduce the’ giant’, among the students through counselling. Campaigns should be held to create awareness to increase understanding and reduce stigma.
Gratitude’s to the World Health Organization, that, in 2019, it launched the WHO Special Initiative for Mental Health (2019-2023): Universal Health Coverage for Mental Health to ensure access to quality and affordable care for Mental Health condition in12 priority countries and100 million more people. Among the twelve priority countries are Bangladesh, Jordan, Nepal, Paraguay, Ukraine and Philippines.
