Drought striken Kieni residents get relief supplies from Optiven Foundation

Hundreds of drought striken Kieni constituency residents have continued to receive relief supplies from Government and Non-Governmental organisations.
Both the national and county governments have sent relief food to the locals who have severely been hit by prolonged drought that has also hit other parts of the country.
The scarcity of rain in the Kenya’s Arid and Semi- (ASAL) region is said to have caused the most severe drought in the last 40 years which has left at least 4.2 million Kenyans in need of humanitarian assistance.
Due to this fact, the leading Real Estate dealer in the country, Optiven Real Estate under its Charity arm; Optiven Foundation has joined the call to extend humanitarian assistance to the needy Kenyans.
Through the Feed One More program, the Foundation has been keenly complementing both Government and other non-governmental organizations in addressing and reducing the direct effects of this drought to most affected citizens.
It has been able to feed hundreds of hungry residents in several areas, in places within Kajiado, Laikipia, Nairobi and Nyeri counties and are planning to donate in more areas.
Last week, the foundation gave out relief food to residents of Kieni West Sub-County at Labbura area near Mweiga.
Led by Joseph Maina, a local administrator, the residents thanked the foundation for the generosity.
Yesterday, the Foundation chairman George Wachiuri called on Kenyans to continue donating to the needy citizens saying though the rains had set in most parts of the country, those from drought hit areas still required assistance before their shambas could produce anything.
