Kisii Medics Strike Over Delay of Two Months Salary

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentist Union Kisii Branch (KMPDU) have put down tools of work over the unpaid November and December months salaries.

In the statement, the union officials said that the members have severally expressed their financial difficulty and strain and that some are in need of support and not able meet their daily living and work.

The union has been following up and had already presented the notice letter dated in 14/12/2022.

The union officials have indicated to the employer that our members shall not report to work if salaries are not paid by 5th of every month and further demanded for immediate pay of November salary.

Doctors union officials have said that going into the future industrial strikes are going to be regular due to constant delays in salaries.

The union has neither received any response to our letter nor has the employer communicated to employees on the status of their salary.

According to KMPDU Secretary Dr Aggrey Orwenyo , the union is committed to ensuring member’s welfare including socioeconomic advancement are protected.

Dr Orwenyo advised the   members to seek alternative solution.

He cited that members shall be out of their work stations to follow up on their dues and alternative solutions from various financial institutions to allow them meet daily sustenance, transport, food and rent.

“We are now tired with false promises, it has reached our time to put down our tools of work,”Dr Orwenyo said.

Separately, Kisii County governor Simba Arati has warned the doctors for dire consequences if they would strike, citing that before they strike they   would have channeled their grievances in a proper manner.

Mr Arati said that   the problem of delayed payment of their salaries is being attended to.
