Bungoma is a town located in Western Kenya. Bungoma is located in the western region of Kenya, and it’s a town that’s full of life and culture. The town is known for its lush greenery, rolling hills, and stunning waterfalls, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and adventurers alike.
Beginning with the famous Chetambe Hills, a series of stunning hills that overlook the town. These hills are popular among hikers and amazing views of the town below. Ascending uphill, one can clearly note the lush green vegetation, the stunning waterfalls, and the stunning rock formations that make this area so unique and a proud sight to behold. Webuye Falls, on the most stunning waterfalls in Kenya. The falls are located a few kilometers outside of Bungoma town and offer a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. As we walk down the trail to the falls, we can hear the sound of the water cascading down the rocks, and the cool breeze from the falls cools us down from the hot sun.
The town is home to the Bukusu people, one of the largest ethnic groups in the western region of Kenya. The Bukusu people are known for their rich cultural heritage popular for their circumcision ceremonies held on August, and we can experience this by visiting the local markets that have ranging products and traditional foods, trying out local dishes, and participating in traditional dances such as isukuti.
Visitors to Bungoma are usually guaranteed to meet a meal of Ugali closely accompanied by tasty chicken. This dish is a local favorite and is a perfect example of the rich and diverse cuisine that the town has to offer. Other local vegetable dishes include Shebebe, Mrenda, Sucha just to mention a few.
Finally, we cannot leave Bungoma without visiting the famous Crying Stone of Ilesi. The crying stone is a large rock formation that resembles a human face, and locals believe that the rock formation is crying for the sins of the world. The rock is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, and it’s a sight to behold. Bungoma is a destination that you don’t want to miss.
