Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua retreated to his rural home at Iruri village in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County, to spend a quiet Easter holiday with his family.
He started his Good Friday with an early morning walk with his Spouse Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, at the foot of Mt Kenya, then proceeded to the neighbouring Iganjo village to visit his only surviving aunt, Gladys Gathoni. At the home, the elderly grandmother, who Gachagua talks of with deep love remarking that she reminds him of his late mother, served him and Pastor Dorcas a hearty breakfast of steaming boiled maize and porridge. Later, the Deputy President, who did not have his usual ring of security, interacted freely with the locals, some of whom were his classmates.
The men and women of all ages poured out their hearts, with many of them expressing their views on the current political situation in the country as their prominent son listened keenly.
They roundly spoke about the heated issue of whether or not President William Ruto should enter into a political deal-political handshake- with Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
They unanimously rejected such a deal saying they expect the Kenya Kwanza Administration to run the show as elected and fulfil the election pledges.
The locals welcomed the Government’s move to distribute subsidised fertiliser asking the President and his Deputy not to be distracted by the opposition through their latest threats of demonstrations.
Gachagua responded that he had heard the people’s views and would heed the voice of the “employers” who voted for him and President Ruto.
