Othaya constituency Member of Parliament Michael Wambugu Wainaina says he shares some of his wealth with his constituents out of generosity and desire to see the less privileged uplifted.
The MP who is popularly known as Mount Kenya, driven from his businesses signature name says he has been chipping in various causes affecting individuals, families and institutions within Othaya for decades and will continue doing so.
Speaking yesterday during a live television programme, Ùteti Na Ùtongoria which was aired by Inooro TV, the MP revealed that he contributed generously towards various development projects when the Third President of Kenya, the late Mwai Kibaki was the area Member of Parliament.
Some of the projects, he noted included schools and other institutions, the notable one being construction of a male ward at Othaya Level IV hospital.
He said the gesture to help and contribute to the public cause was informed by his poor background which was only elevated when he started a business in Nairobi in early 1980’s.

Wainaina noted that without paying taxes, the government would not have resources to carry on various projects and services which it promised Kenyans.
“We should all embrace and be ready to play our part. This includes paying the required taxes so that the government can get resources,” he said.
Without taxes, he noted, the country will stagnate and no meaningful development will be realised.
To his Othaya people, Wainaina disclosed that he had lined up various projects and services which he hoped will change their standards of living.
These include prudent use of various funds provided by the government like National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) which he said his team had devised a new model that will always see most of the funds remaining in the area.
Others, he noted was installation and piping of irrigation water to alleviate hunger among the locals.
He further noted plans were underway to ensure that various roads are upgraded.
Currently, more than 100 families are living in new houses, set up by the MP and a group of well-wishers using their personal resources.
To an issue raised by one of the locals on plans to dispose land belonging to farmers affiliated to Chinga Tea Factory, the MP said he will ensure that the said farmers are not shortchanged.
There has been concern that some farmers pieces of land in Laikipia and Nyandarua counties are set to be sold out to influential individuals without their consent.
He said he consults his predecessors like former area MP Gichuki Mugambi on development matters to ensure that resources are utilized maximumly for the benefit of the locals.
Scores of people who watched the one hour programme heaped praises on him for his generosity and down to earth style.
