CHILDLESS GRANDMOTHER
With the beginning of the month of Ramadan, the souls of the children of our neighborhood entered. We used to hold the four ends of the qiqiq and go from door to door saying Ramadan.
“We came to your door saying Ramadan,
May God give you a son…”
Someone was urinating with bread, someone with a handful of sour cream and sugar. Although I didn’t get a single bite, I was given something when the goodies on the open table were distributed.
There was an elderly childless mother in our neighborhood.
One day, we passed in front of his door in silence, because he did not have a grandchild to take him out. When we were about to reach the neighbor’s yard, he called after us. “Hey guys, come back!” His voice trembled. Pouring the sweets on our table, he said: “Why didn’t you enter my gate?” Then a boy said: “Mom, you won’t give birth to a boy as we wish!” he said. The woman’s body trembled and tears flowed from her eyes. We all fell silent. Momo patted the boy’s head and said:
β My child, even if I don’t give birth to a boy according to your wish, I pray for mothers who give birth to a son like you. Don’t pass through the door of a godless person like me. If I don’t come out when I say Ramadan twice, come inside and get a message. I wish you would come to my door saying Ramadan all year long…
