heaps of garbage
By: James Wakahiu
Witeithie estate residents in Juja sub county Kiambu have raised alarm over pileup of uncollected garbage in various streets within the estate where they pointed an accusing finger to the County Government of Kiambu over laxity in keeping their environment clean and safe to the public where they called on those seeking for election votes to lead by example.
Residents lamented that the heaps of garbage that have remained uncollected for months are not only an eyesore but a health hazard that could result into outbreaks of diseases. Majority of affected areas are Molo area, Kibute & part of Witeithie open air market where residents have been forced to walk over pungent smell emanating from the solid waste pileup.
At Witeithie Open Air Market, traders lamented that the waste bins mounted near the gateway to the main market are rarely emptied and the accumulated waste that is strewn all over was exposing them to myriad health complications such as respiratory diseases. Molo transformer residents said that in many occasions they had complained to the County Government over unattended dumping sites near their houses including various pathways but no action has so far been taken.
