Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s spouse Pastor Dorcas has challenged church leaders to be in the frontline in fight against alcoholism and drugs abuse.
Pastor Dorcas said the church should be ready to accommodate those had reformed and further assist in rehabilitating them.
The Second Lady spoke on Saturday at Mwea Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) Church during the consecration of and installation of Regional Bishop Samuel Karimi and ordination of 33 other church ministers.
The Deputy President who was the Chief Guest was accompanied by among others; Kirinyaga County Women Representative Njeri Maina, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa and Mukurwe-ini Constituency MP John Kaguchia.
Thousands of Mwea Constituency residents, led by leaders former area Members of Parliament Alfred Nderitu, Peter Gitau and Kabinga Wachira Wathayu attended the colourful ceremony.
Also present were leaders from other parts of the county led by former area Women Representative Wangui Ngirichi who is currently the chairperson of Kenya Seed Company and several Members of County Assembly.
In her brief address, Pastor Dorcas who has been leading in identification, registration and rehabilitation said the war on alcohol and drugs abuse must be won.
“You must be in the forefront of fighting alcohol and drugs abuse. You should be able to welcome those who are willing to be reformed. Give them spiritual and physical food,” she urged the church leaders.
She said the future of the country could not be guaranteed if concerted efforts to fight the menace were not applied.
In his address over the issue, the Deputy President said illicit brews would not be allowed back as he disclosed that him and his spouse have in the past lost three siblings.
