At least 7,329 first-year students have been admitted at Kisii University since the commencement of the admission exercise on August 29. Speaking during the first year’s orientation event at the institution, Kisii University Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Nathan Ogechi confirmed they had received 7,329 students so far and the institution was prepared to ensure every student excels in their area of expertise. Prof. Ogechi assured the students of adequate support from the academic and support staff who are well-trained locally, regionally, and internationally, and have experience working as external examiners and publishers. The VC also promised them of maximum security within the university and its outskirts in collaboration with administrators from the Ministry of Interior.

Uneducated adults in Kajiado County have been urged to enroll for Adult and Continuing Education classes so as to fight illiteracy. County Coordinator for Adult and Continuing Education Mercy Njiriri, noted the literacy levels in the county is still very low with many adults especially in rural areas unable to read or write. Speaking at Enkigirri Primary School, Kajiado East during celebrations to mark the International Literacy Day 2024, Njiriri attributed the low literacy levels among the Maasai community to cultural practices such as moranism, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages. The nomadic lifestyle of the Maa community has also contributed to the low literacy levels as  they move from one place to another in search of water and pasture for their animals thus cannot attend classes fully.

Matuga MP Kassim Sawa Tandaza has set out to establish a Sh100 million model secondary school to be called Tandaza Model Educational Centre in his constituency to provide quality education. Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani accompanied by MP Tandaza launched the construction work for the new model school in Tsimba/Golini Ward in Matuga Sub County. The new institution with funding from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) will focus on developing the talents of Kwale youth aligning with the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) education model. The Tandaza Model Education Center is poised to be a transformative project for Kwale, aligning with the national vision of empowering youth through a talent-focused learning approach. Tandaza says the new educational centre will have facilities such as classrooms, administration block, sports pitches, and a swimming pool aiming to create a comprehensive learning and talent development environment.

MozzartBet Company Kenya has commissioned a solar powered borehole valued at KSh3.5 Million at Cheplel Primary school in Ainamoi constituency within Kericho County as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The water project is set to benefit six hundred households. Addressing the media, MozzartBet Country Manager, Sasa Krneta said the water project was a social responsibility undertaking to give back to vulnerable communities access clean water. He noted that it was their 15th borehole project in the country adding that they will continue supporting communities.

 

 

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has challenged students to study Information Technology, Finance and Environmental studies if gthey want to become future top earners. Nyoro said a study shows the richest people in the world have a background in IT, Finance and Environmental studies and that Kenyan students should keenly consider choosing these courses as they go to university or tertiary institutions. “As you study in school, it is important for you to know at this age as you go to university, you are more likely to become a billionaire if you are in these sectors,” Nyoro insisted as graced Form Four candidates’ prayers and awarding last year’s KCSE top performance in Aldai constituency at an event held in Kobujoi center in Aldai constituency.
