Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the National Government’s commitment to accelerating development in Tharaka Nithi County, following a high-level consultative forum with local leaders
In a follow-up briefing held yesterday, Prof. Kindiki met with Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki at his official residence in Karen to outline a structured plan for implementing key government projects in the county.
The two leaders agreed on a roadmap that will see a dedicated committee, chaired by Governor Njuki, oversee the execution of national development programs tailored to the county’s needs.
Speaking after the meeting, DP Kindiki underscored the importance of a coordinated effort between the National and County Governments to ensure effective service delivery.
“We are keen on fostering development that directly improves the livelihoods of our people. This roadmap will streamline project execution and enhance accountability,” he stated.
Governor Njuki welcomed the move, noting that the initiative would fast-track infrastructural improvements, economic growth, and social development across Tharaka Nithi County.
“We now have a clear framework to drive progress in key sectors such as roads, healthcare, and education,” said Njuki.
The meeting followed a Wednesday consultative forum where local leaders and stakeholders identified priority areas requiring urgent intervention.
The implementation committee is expected to begin work immediately, focusing on high-impact projects aligned with the county’s strategic goals.
Residents of Tharaka Nithi have expressed optimism that the renewed collaboration between the two levels of government will bring tangible benefits and long-awaited progress to the region.
In addition to discussing development, DP Kindiki urged Governor Njuki to fully take charge of the county’s political leadership and unify local leaders.
“My brother Governor Njuki, stop joking and fully take control of the political leadership in your county and bring unity,” Kindiki said during the Wednesday consultative meeting with elected leaders and professionals from the county.
The Deputy President also dismissed claims by Chiakariga MCA Kinyua Njagi, alias ZM, and Igambang’ombe MCA Njeru Ingara, who had positioned themselves as his political defenders in the county.
“The gap between the Deputy President’s position and that of an MCA is too large for them to claim they can politically protect me,” he asserted.
Kindiki further emphasized that almost all elected leaders in Tharaka Nithi are part of the Kenya Kwanza Government and should focus on supporting President William Ruto’s administration by explaining its development agenda to residents.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, DP Kindiki assured that all stalled infrastructure projects, including roads and water systems, would be completed while new projects would be initiated.
Governor Njuki acknowledged DP Kindiki’s directive and vowed to spearhead efforts to unify the county’s leadership.
“I have heard you clearly, and going forward, I will commit myself to ensuring that all leaders work together,” Njuki said.
Chuka/Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene echoed the unity call, stating that he would personally meet Governor Njuki to discuss collaboration.
“Next Sunday, I will even take tea at Governor Njuki’s home as we discuss how to serve our people,” said Munene.
Other leaders, including Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki and Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara, also pledged to work together to champion unity. Senator Mwenda Gataya and Women Representative Susan Ngugi emphasized the need for Governor Njuki to lead in unifying Tharaka Nithi’s leadership for the sake of peace and development.
DP Kindiki urged Njuki to form a development follow-up committee comprising political, academic, and business leaders to monitor the county’s progress.
In a rare public rebuke, DP Kindiki also criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of wasting time in political fights instead of focusing on development.
“The government achieved very little in the last two years because Mr. Gachagua was busy fighting instead of working,” Kindiki said.
He claimed that Gachagua spent most of his time “laying traps” at State House to prevent former Prime Minister Raila Odinga from gaining influence, while also engaging in unnecessary battles with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kindiki assured Kenyans that under the current leadership, the Kenya Kwanza government is committed to fulfilling its campaign promises and accelerating development efforts.
As Tharaka Nithi leaders rally behind a unified approach, residents will be watching to see whether this new political alignment will translate into tangible benefits for the county.
