The Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries visited the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) – Dairy Research Institute (DRI), Naivasha, led by the chairman Sen. David Wakoli Wafula. The committee was welcomed by Dr. Samuel Mbuku, the Institute Director, on behalf of the KALRO Director General Dr. Eliud Kireger. The committee has been visiting agricultural organizations within the country in an effort to enhance collaboration between government and other key national players in the agricultural sector to enable improved productivity in the country. Dr. Samuel Mbuku, with a team of senior researchers, gave the senate team a presentation of an overview of the whole organization and institute and thereafter took them on a farm tour and tree planting session later.
Yesterday, Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni led other officials and supporters for a consultative meeting with the party officials from Embu county. The team supported majority of Kenyans clarion call of ensuring the President William Ruto’s regime serve just one term. Kioni noted that Kenyans are tired of empty rhetoric, hollow promises, and endless blame games. He added that the current government has mastered the art of talking without delivering, while the cost of living keeps skyrocketing.
Officials noted that Jubilee remains the party of choice across the board, grounded, tested, and focused on real solutions.
Bilateral Engagement on Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project commits to resume deliberations on the River Daua Basin Development Initiatives that will irrigate 120,000 acres in Kenya and Ethiopia. The Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, Ephantus Kimotho, participated in the bilateral engagement between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Kenya on the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project. The meeting was organized by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The PS, accompanied by the Irrigation Secretary for Programs, Eng. Michael Thuita, facilitated the resumption of deliberations on the River Daua Basin Development Initiatives under the auspices of IGAD. The initiative aims to build a dam that will: Control floods, Irrigate 120,000 acres for food production, Generate hydroelectric power and Enhance regional economic integration. The Daua River, which forms part of the Kenya–Ethiopia–Somalia border, is a vital transboundary water resource supporting the livelihoods of thousands of pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in the region. Its seasonal flooding and untapped hydrological potential offer a unique opportunity to address water scarcity, improve food security, and promote sustainable development in the arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) of northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia. The meeting was attended by senior government officials from both countries.
The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards hosted Mary Muthoni and Dr. Sarah Imam, Director of Health Sciences at The Citadel Military College in South Carolina, USA, for a consultative meeting on strengthening collaboration in community health outreach. The discussion focused on aligning the Citadel Free Medical Camp initiative with Kenya’s national health priorities, particularly in underserved urban settlements such as Kibera, Kayole, and Kariobangi, where the programme has provided critical services over the past four years. The Ministry welcomes strategic partnerships that enhance community-based interventions, promote equitable access to healthcare, and support capacity building through skills exchange between Kenyan health professionals and international medical volunteers. Strengthening such collaborations is integral to the Ministry’s commitment to building resilient, inclusive, and people-centred health systems.
