Riggy-G Meets Anko-G Renown development expert and consultant, Mr Gachara Kamanga alias Anko-G yesterday held a consultative meeting with former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua. The two discussed potential areas of economic transformation in Nyeri County as well as various opinions on diverse issues affecting the country.  Gachara, who comes from Nyeri County is a development consultant with a wide range of experience in matters policy develoment, planning and evaluation. For several years, Gachara who was in the team of experts who came up with Vision 2030 during the reign of President Mwai Kibaki has been involved in various development and social activities in Nyeri county and beyond. He is widely expected to contest the Nyeri gubernatorial seat during the forthcoming General Elections.

KTDA Holdings Limited  and SHA are in talks to strengthen affordable healthcare access for more than 650,000 tea farmers under KTDA-managed factories, supporting the government’s Universal Health Coverage agenda. The partnership will allow farmers to pay SHA insurance premiums via credit facilities from KTDA’s Greenland Fedha. The meeting took place at KTDA Headquarters in Nairobi, where SHA chairman Abdi Mohammed and CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi engaged with KTDA Group CEO Wilson Muthaura. Also present were Dr. Charles Kireru, Group General Manager Human Resources and Administration, and Dickson Waitueka, General Manager Greenland Fedha.

Tharaka University (TUN) successfully concluded a three-day training program for its staff focused on safety, public safety, disaster management, emergency drills, and lifesaving skills. Participants were awarded certificates of completion in Public Safety from PIMAC International and Associates Consortium Worldwide. Training and capacity building are key objectives in the university’s strategic plan to create a safe and secure learning and living environment. The trainer, Mr. Pius Masai Mwachi, President and Director General of PIMAC International and Associates Consortium Worldwide, expressed his satisfaction with the trainees’ commitment and dedication throughout the intensive three-day program. This training, themed “Safety Begins with Me and You, So Let Us Act Now,” included hands-on and practical experiences. The training was coordinated by Dr. Edward Kathuni, Ag. Registrar (Administration and Planning) and Ms. Wendy Micheni – Director of Performance Contracting.

Professor Gemechu Wirtu of Tuskegee University visited Chuka University on Wednesday to monitor and evaluate the progress of the USDA Scientific Research Cooperation Project (SCRP) on beekeeping. The visit follows his initial tour in December 2023, during which he launched the SCRP initiative and strengthened mentorship ties with Dr. Onesmus Munene Nderi from the Faculty of Agriculture. This time, Prof. Wirtu was accompanied by a student from Tuskegee University, who will contribute to ongoing research activities under the project. He praised the university for its effective implementation of the beekeeping project and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening collaboration, particularly in areas such as assisted reproductive technologies. He also emphasized the importance of expanding interdisciplinary partnerships across various fields.

The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) on Wednesday hosted a delegation from the Tree Growers Association of Nairobi (TGAN) at its Headquarters in Muguga. The delegation was led by the TGAN chairperson Benjamin Karanja,  accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Damaris Nyambura, and Mr. Lorenz Klein Wisenberg. The team paid a courtesy call to KEFRI Director, Dr. Jane Njuguna, where fruitful deliberations focusing on collaborative efforts to advance sustainable tree growing and forestry practices across the country took place. Key among the issues discussed was the implementation of a bottom-up approach in engaging local farmers in tree planting and tree farming activities. Both institutions recognized the value of empowering grassroots communities as key drivers of Kenya’s afforestation and reforestation goals. The conversation further explored the development of a structured training curriculum on nursery management and tree growing, aimed at equipping farmers and community groups with the necessary skills and knowledge for sustainable forestry practices. Dr. Njuguna emphasized the need to embrace innovative tools such as the Jaza Miti mobile application, developed to support tree growers in planning, monitoring, and documenting tree planting efforts. She highlighted the App’s potential to bridge knowledge gaps, enhance traceability, and strengthen data collection efforts within tree-growing communities. The team had an opportunity to visit KEFRI seed center based in Central Highlands Eco region Research Programme (CHERP) and got to see the ongoing research and nurseries.

A delegation from Glory Biotech Corp Limited, led by Vice President Jae-Young Lee, paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Health’s Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, on Wednesday to explore potential collaboration in laboratory diagnostic technologies for HIV care. The discussions also focused on opportunities for technology transfer and local manufacturing aimed at creating employment and strengthening the health sector.
