Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Alice Kande, joined education leaders and policymakers in South Africa to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The milestone event celebrated SAQA’s enduring legacy in enhancing the quality and recognition of education and training across South Africa and the broader African continent.
Dr. Kande praised SAQA’s trailblazing efforts in establishing robust systems for quality assurance and lifelong learning. She highlighted the authority’s role in fostering regional collaboration and facilitating the mobility of skills and qualifications, which she described as vital for Africa’s development. “SAQA has set a benchmark in qualifications recognition and standardization that many of us in the region continue to learn from,” she said.
The KNQA chief emphasized the importance of harmonizing qualifications frameworks across Africa, noting that such efforts are key to unlocking the continent’s potential through education and innovation. She reiterated KNQA’s dedication to working with SAQA and other regional bodies to build integrated systems that support socio-economic transformation.
