The new generation has really changed since the youth nowadays does not belong to the society as it used to be in the past. The youth belonged to the society and whenever they did wrong, it was the responsibility of every elder to take action on them so as to correct them including punishment.
Nowadays, due to technological advancement, some of our parents spend most of their time in electrical devices such as smartphones in social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp chatting with pals instead of taking their time advising their children on how to live according to societal norms by having good moral values. Whenever a child goes wrong in recent times and someone takes the possibility of punishing them, it can lead even to quarrels between the children’s parents and the one punishing the children due to the saying that ‘kwani mtoto ni wako, shughulika na life yako kwanza’ and this has made the youth have the privacy to do anything since parents have no full responsibility on advicing them.
Secondly, due to the need to maintain good relations with one another, people find it hard to punish children even when they are wrong since people find it hard to break the friendship they have with the children’s parents so there is a high level of ignorance on our youth today leading to many of them not being moral upright.
It’s high time that we follow the traditional living where elders should take part in shaping up our children’s behaviour whenever they go wrong.
