Worth Noting:
- If Murang’a county official admits the “alleged corruption king” who oversaw the mega corruption of over 7.5 billion in KEMSA that resulted to death of over 5,000 Kenyans across the nation and a hundred thousand hospitalized in addition to millions who lost jobs then the party’s integrity clarion call shall be deeply dented.
- After creating the unpopular ‘Covid-19 billionaires’ and disappearance Chinese billionaire Jack Ma’s health kits where he is accused of working with highly privileged forces Kembi transited to the Communication authority of Kenya as Chairman of the board where he was serving the whole nation, but he has chosen to leave the noble job to vie for a seat he failed to live to the expectation of Murang’a people.
In politics, perception is as good as reality. Jubilee party Senatorial nomination has brought to the light a perceived “Overseer of KEMSA 7.5 Billion scandal” in Murang’a County against a reknown scholar.
Murang’a people are on the lookout to see whether the same yardstick used against a light weight alleged corrupt novice in Nakuru County who was involved in some few millions will be used against the alleged corruption Caesar whose involvement led to deaths across Kenya.
In Nakuru when young lady in the name of Anne Ngirita presented herself to vie as Women representative to the Jubilee Party Nakuru County branch where senior barons overturned junior official’s admission of the “alleged corruption queen”.
If Murang’a county official admits the “alleged corruption king” who oversaw the mega corruption of over 7.5 billion in KEMSA that resulted to death of over 5,000 Kenyans across the nation and a hundred thousand hospitalized in addition to millions who lost jobs then the party’s integrity clarion call shall be deeply dented.
After creating the unpopular ‘Covid-19 billionaires’ and disappearance Chinese billionaire Jack Ma’s health kits where he is accused of working with highly privileged forces Kembi transited to the Communication authority of Kenya as Chairman of the board where he was serving the whole nation, but he has chosen to leave the noble job to vie for a seat he failed to live to the expectation of Murang’a people.
In 2015 Kembi issued a press statement calling for the withdrawal of tea bill saying it was unconstitutional he however did nothing to align it with the constitution, yet he is not only a veteran politician, but he is a legal expert and was bestowed the responsibility of Deputy Senate speaker thus giving him privileges.
The irony of the matter is he represented a tea producing county and even after the Murang’a County MCAs led by the then Agriculture committee chairman James Kariuki and leader of Majority Peter Kihungi request him through press briefing to offer the desired legal expertise to the assembly instead of unilaterally calling for the withdrawal of the bill he declined.
“As our senator, Kembi has the right to liaise with the speaker to address the assembly on any issue but instead he chose to go to the media,” Kariuki said.
To the contrary, the most remembered Bill he sponsored was Bill that sought to Scrap Nairobi from the list of Counties through The Constitution of Kenya Amendment Bill (No 2) 2016 that was proposing to reduce the number of counties to 46.
He had proposed the President to appoint a Cabinet Secretary with the approval of the National Assembly to be in charge of the capital’s administration, effectively doing away with the governor and MCAs.
“There shall be a National Capital city known as Nairobi which shall be the seat of the national government… The President shall, in exercise of powers conferred to him by the Constitution, appoint, for the National Capital, a Cabinet Secretary who shall exercise such powers and perform such functions as may be delegated to the Cabinet Secretary from time to time by the President,” the bill sponsored by Senate Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura stated.
Gitura did this with full knowledge that most business in Central Business District and beyond in Nairobi are owned by people from Murang’a who invested their coffee and tea proceeds to build the city as we know it today.
This attempt was part of consolidation as opposed to the devolution which he was supposedly elected to promote on behalf of Murang’a people.
Another matter in question is to whether Kembi will concede if he is floored at the Jubilee nominations have the record of reject nominations in the 2017 nominations where he was the incumbent and a senior politician who could not withstand the wave of youthful politician Senator Kang’ata.
Kembi proceeded to vie as an independent candidate but the Murang’a people confirmed the verdict on him was well thought and the nominations were free, fair and credible and his rejection as their representative was sealed.
Kembi is an alumnus of esteemed extra county schools Murang’a High School and Nyeri High school in addition to the world-class University of Nairobi, thus he should be beyond reproach as a role model, senior citizen and intellectual.
The Jubilee party nomination will yield to a heavily leaden candidate full of allegations and substantiated past failures, or a clean slatted intellectual. Their choice will face at the ballot the novice politicians who might have a field day during the August 9, general elections.
The senatorial seat has also attracted Joe of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Pius Kinuthia of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
