Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui
By Lee Kinyanjui
We are a nation of crackdowns. From riparian land, counterfeits, illicit brew, matatus and now boda boda. We hope fake certificates will be next.
What is common with all these crackdowns is the fact that a major incident had to occur before the vice was brought to the attention of the nation and action taken.
Unfortunately, Kenyans are creatures of habit. Unless we have a long-sustained behaviour change, the crackdown will soon end and we will be back to default settings.
It will be very critical to develop clear rules and guidelines whose implementation will go beyond the crackdown. Behaviour change can only happen with repeated consistency.
Let us learn from previous challenges and work beyond the ‘crackdown’. To build a culture of civility and respect for the rule of law.
Lee Kinyanjui is the Governor for Nakuru County.
