Nakuru County hit by three fire incidents

Nakuru County yesterday reported three fire incidents, throwing the locals into panic.
Although no casualty was reported, experts observed that the loss to the property and environment was enormous.
Area Governor Lee Kinyanjui said, “I appeal to Nakuru residents to exercise caution and avoid lighting outdoor fires that can easily turn catastrophic”.
He added, “We note with concern the outbreak of fires that have destroyed forest vegetation across Nakuru County”.
The fires were said to be raging in Menengai Crater forest (Bahati), Eburru forest (Gilgil) and Koibatek Forest in Rongai Sub-county.
Kinyanjui said his government was working with Kenya Forest Service and National Government agencies to contain the fires.
On his Facebook page, Kinyanjui added, “We, however, note the challenge posed by the strong winds and dry weather in containing the fires. At Menengai Crater Forest, we have dispatched fire engines, water tankers and graders to make fire breaks. This is to prevent the fire from spreading into farms and homes”.
