Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has launched “Operation Fagia,” a political campaign targeting leaders allied to the ruling UDA in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Addressing rallies in Nanyuki and Naromoru on Saturday, Gachagua urged voters to reject leaders he accused of abandoning the region’s interests and instead supporting President William Ruto’s administration.
He singled out several Laikipia and Nyeri leaders for defeat while encouraging residents to register as voters and protect their votes.
Gachagua also criticised plans to establish an Ebola preparedness centre in Laikipia and noted that his intervention helped prevent the relocation of British soldiers from Nanyuki to Tanzania, saying the move would have hurt the local economy.
Supporters repeatedly urged the former Deputy President to contest the presidency in 2027.
Nyeri gubernatorial aspirant Gichuki Mugambi said Mt Kenya had already settled on Gachagua as its preferred presidential candidate and urged him to focus on winning support in other regions. Mugambi described Kieni Constituency as the economic engine of Nyeri and the wider Mt Kenya region, calling for increased investment in roads, water, healthcare, schools and value addition for agricultural produce.
Former KALRO chairman Dr Thuo Mathenge also endorsed Gachagua’s presidential bid and appealed to former President Uhuru Kenyatta to back him. DCP Secretary General-designate John Methu dismissed Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen’s warnings against citizens guarding votes, urging voters to remain vigilant during the 2027 elections.
He was accompanied by dozens of former, current and aspiring political leaders.
