On the final day of the Wamunyoro consultations, the DCP leader told young Kenyans their sacrifices in 2024 will not be forgotten — and that their future will be defended

Rigathi Gachagua yesterday closed his 55-day political conclave at Wamunyoro with a direct address to young Kenyans, accusing the government of having shot, abducted and killed Gen Z protesters during the 2024 anti-government demonstrations and pledging to make their welfare central to his political mission.
Speaking at his Nyeri County residence on the final day of consultations that drew delegations from across the country, Gachagua said young people had been met with state violence when they dared to speak. “The young people were called criminals, several were butchered and others disappeared. Instructions were later issued to shoot them on the legs,” he said.
The government has not formally acknowledged issuing such orders. Gachagua did not present evidence but has raised the allegations repeatedly in recent weeks, including before Gen Z representatives at earlier engagements.
His closing message was unambiguous. “We must stand with our young people — their destiny must be secured,” he said.
The 2024 protests, which forced President William Ruto to withdraw the Finance Bill, remain a defining moment in Kenya’s recent political history — and a wound that no serious presidential contender can afford to ignore.
