Nyeri County former First Lady Margaret Karungaru sets her eyes on Women Rep position

Former Nyeri County First Lady Margaret Karungaru Gachagua is determined to be the next Women Representative for the county.
Karungaru is in the race for seat as an Independent candidate, come August 9 when the General Election will be held.
She has urged Nyeri voters to elect leaders depending on their ability to work for them instead of being guided by political party euphoria, a common phenomenon during every electioneering period.
This has been her message whenever she meets voters in different parts of the county.
Her manifesto mainly touches on Women, youth and disadvantaged people empowerment.
She has promised if elected in August polls, she will use her network to lobby for funding from the government and other organizations to supplement the Affirmative Action Fund.
Last month, Karungaru decamped from Deputy President William Ruto led UDA party citing reservations on its internal democracy.
The wife to the first area governor, the late Nderitu Gachagua said she had decided to leave the party as it had not demonstrated that it will carry out free and fair nomination process ahead of the General Election.
Ms Karungaru who is seeking to be the third Women Representative in the National Assembly.
She ditched the party ahead of nominations next month sighting uncertainty in the way the process will be conducted but insisted that she will still support DP William Ruto’s Presidential bid.
Mrs Gachagua, a former High School Principal is an alumni of Alliance Girls High School & University of Nairobi.
During the late Nderitu tenure, she traversed the county championing for the interests women, youth and marginalized groups and is riding on these issues to endear herself with the electorate.
She is popular across Nyeri County and remains an icon in her capacity as first Nyeri County first lady having helped define the role of that title and privilages that come with it, a record that still stands to outshine itself.
Some of her deeds could easily be felt then and even now as they spread in every part of the county.
With her exit in UDA, the Incumbent Women Representative Rahab Mukami will be squaring for the party nomination with among others Ms Jacinta Wahome.
In Jubilee, those who have declared interest include Njeri Njoori, Priscila Wambaire Karagu (Wa-Mark), Elizabeth Wamuyu Muthui and Rose Waikundi.
Others in other parties and independent are Ann Wanjuhi Njoroge and nominated MCA Caroline Muthoni.
