Kwetso consultating services on literary outreach incubation program took centre stage in South Africa at Mpumalanga in KwaNdebele on National book month. The event took place at Makerana Tribal Office at Vezubuhle.
“Changing the boring narrative around reading and writing clubs by doing activities that are fun and educational as well as provide alternative exposure to Literature not just sitting in a class room” – by Katlego Lengwasa from Kwetso consultating services. She continues… “ If it’s Literature we will find a way to make it fun”.
Students and individual people were on numbers on this National book month to celebrate written stories from poetry to drama, novel to stage play. Students adapted number of poems from the poetry book title: “IsiDonodono” authored by Themba Emanuel Mashobane.
“What excited me is that all the the participants managed to master and recite, perform poems, short stories and drama within short space of time preparing. They gave my written poems a beautiful voice with great echoes on my ears. They gave my poems life and wings to fly in an audio world” author said as he smiles.
He continues “ I felt small when see these kids reciting my poems better than me, they took ownership on my poems and that was heart touching and for that I take out my hat just for you future leaders and please do not be shy to tell and write your stories in your African Indigenous languages which is in isiNdebele “.
This is the very good initiative towards isiNdebele language since is the one that still lack of new and current books that can be accessible by the community at large.
Reading books for pleasure in KwaNdebele is not the culture especially with vernacular language, so this Literary Outreach Program are enforcing such cultural activities to the community so that it can be instill in daily basis. Books festivals or reading events it is scares compare to other provinces where Indigenous languages rooted South Africa.
The author also expresses his happiness that he received from the participants “I like the transition and combination of the poem they have performed as group, title of the poem is: “Gudu Gudu” which talks about guilty conscious and regrets”.
