Kenya’s most watched senator formally plants his 2027 flag
By James Mwangi
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna yesterday launched The Equitable Party as his presidential vehicle for the 2027 general election, drawing a packed crowd of opposition principals and igniting fresh anticipation across Kenya’s political landscape.
Flanked by Siaya Governor James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Sifuna was declared party leader and presidential flagbearer at a ceremony at the Stanley Hotel in Nairobi. The occasion marked the formal end of months of legal delays that had blocked his preferred Linda Mwananchi Movement registration.
Sifuna announced that TEP would soon rebrand to the Linda Mwananchi Movement, describing the party as a home for Kenyans who believe the country deserves better leadership. He urged supporters to register under party code 100. “Young Kenyans must have a meaningful voice in shaping the leadership of this country,” he told the crowd.
With August 2027 approaching fast, yesterday’s launch signals that the race to State House is no longer a matter of speculation β it has formally begun.
