Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka breaks ground on a facility that ends years of children walking kilometres for basic education

Construction of Kirigiti Primary School in Kiambu Town Constituency began yesterday following the handover of the site to Affordable Galaxy Construction Ltd, ending a longstanding gap that has left the area as the only part of the constituency without a primary school.
Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka said the project, delivered through the Affordable Housing CSR programme at Kirigiti Approved School, will directly address an education access problem that has persisted for years. Children in Kirigiti have been forced to walk up to two kilometres to reach either Kiu River Primary School or Kiambu Primary School — daily journeys that have placed a burden on young learners and strained both neighbouring institutions.
The first phase will comprise ten classrooms, an administration block and eighteen toilets, providing a functional learning facility for children who have had none within reach.
Waithaka said the project fulfils a commitment he made to residents during his campaigns. “When I went around Kirigiti during the campaign, I heard the concerns of parents and residents and made a commitment to address them. Today, that commitment is taking shape on the ground,” he said.
Beyond bringing education closer to families, the new school is expected to ease enrolment pressure on the two schools that have been absorbing Kirigiti’s learners for years.
The construction marks a concrete step in Waithaka’s development agenda for Kiambu Town Constituency.
