As campaigns for 2022 elections Intensifies a number of political leaders in the Kisii region are being endorsed by Gusii Council of elders, the youth, women and even the political class to run for different political positions.
Elders from Gusii community are having pick hours of endorsing political leaders who have declared their interests for different political seats a head of the August polls as one way of giving supporting their candidature.
Kisii aspiring Senator Advocate Okeng’o Nyambane is reaping big from the council of elders from different clans who have declared their interest of endorsing him for the senatorial position to succeed incumbent Sam Ongeri in the general elections.
So far, the elders, the Youth, Women groups from at least the nine constituencies in Kisii County have vowed to support the said advocate.
Speaking during the elders and women Meeting in Kitutu Chache South Sabina Kennedy Former Kisii member of County Assembly said, she has mobilised a number of women to rally their support for the senatorial aspirant Okengo Nyambane.
“We have seen what our past regime under Governor Ongwae and his Senator Sam Ongeri have offered to our people, time has come for us to propose the youth for the senatorial position and see what they can offer,” said the former MCA.
Ms Kennedy said the youth have been left behind when it’s time to share political seats but this time they are going to make sure the youth inclusion in the county top seats are catered for.
Her sentiments were echoed by Mr. Moses Morara an elder from Kitutu South said they have endorsed senatorial aspirant Mr. Okengo because they believe in his gratitude and some activities he has done in uplifting the livehood of people in this community.
He added, in the past ten years since devolution, the senatorial position was taken in by Chris Obure and Sam Ongeri who is both elderly and a time has come to change the leadership and vote in a youth like other regions for better service delivery.
“If the youth come together and support their own, vote for him, this will boost him since us the elderly our votes will be a top up,” said Morara.
So far, at least five aspirants in Kisii County have declared their interests for the senatorial position including Kitutu South MP Richard Onyonka, Social media influenza Samuel Okemwa, CEC Youth affairs Kisii County Government Duke Mainga and Former Bonchari MP Charles Onyancha.
