The Kenya Society for the Blind in partnership with Christian Blind Mission has on Tuesday unveiled an eye care hospital that will be open to the public.
Speaking during the launch of the facility, the Executive Director of the society Mr Samson Waweru observed:
“Today is an exciting day as we launch the Kenya Society of the Blind eye clinic. This will be part of KSB eye hospital which will be that of a level 4 status. I’d like to thank the management team for enabling this big dream come into a reality.”
Mr. Waweru added that the block housing the clinic has a huge space to meet statutory and legal framework to enable this to be a level four hospital.
He added that when the hospital is accredited and approved for NHIF and other facilities they shall see a big change in how they offer services.
“Located along the slum area these people will benefit from the clinic. It’s comprehensive low vision assistance and a rehabilitation centre for those confirmed to be blind.
The facility will offer both Screening and rehabilitation taking care of avoidable blindness.
It cost Ksh 2.2 million on renovation and equipment whilst another Ksh1.25M went for the purchase of eye drops
Mr Waweru also alluded that plans are underway to construct a theatre. He says:
“When we finish the theatre will give comprehensive eye care services.
“We want to appreciate CBM and send a message of appreciation to them. They ensured this place is functional.
