President William Ruto has announced renewed efforts to strengthen Kenya’s relationship with Tanzania, setting ambitious targets of KSh130 billion in new trade and KSh65 billion in cross-border investments.
Speaking during his State visit, Ruto emphasized the need to eliminate barriers that hinder the free movement of goods, services, and people.
He said Kenya and Tanzania aim to remove non-tariff barriers such as border delays and non-harmonised standards by June 30, 2026, to unlock exponential growth in trade.
The President noted that deeper cooperation is essential, stressing that both nations’ progress is interconnected.
He called for an end to mistrust and rivalry, urging stronger regional integration under the East African Community and alignment with opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
During the visit, Ruto held talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan and addressed Tanzania’s Parliament in Dodoma.
The two leaders also presided over the signing of eight agreements covering infrastructure, trade, logistics, security, energy, and public service.
At the Tanzania-Kenya Business Forum in Dar es Salaam, attended by over 300 private sector players, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to creating a stable, predictable, and investor-friendly environment to drive private sector-led growth.
Ruto said the strengthened partnership will deliver shared prosperity and expand economic opportunities for citizens of both nations.
